FIREFIGHTER RECRUIT (EMT AND PARAMEDIC) JOB ANNOUNCEMENT


Based on SJFD’s current recruitment needs, San José’s Human Resources Department will be accepting applications for Firefighter Recruit (EMT) and Firefighter Recruit (Paramedic). Only EMT's and Paramedics with current and valid certifications may apply at this time.  Firefighter Recruits with bilingual language skills (Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese) and experienced Firefighter-Paramedics are also encouraged to apply.  All new hires must attend a 17-18 week Academy as a Firefighter Recruit.  Upon successful completion of the Academy, graduates are appointed as a Firefighter (2311).  The probationary period for Firefighters is one year. 

We will be accepting electronic applications for Firefighter Recruit-EMTs and Firefighter Recruit-Paramedics for three days, beginning Monday March 10, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. and ending Wednesday March 12, 2008; at 11:59 p.m. Applications will be accepted on-line at http://www.sanjoseca.gov/cityjobs. Hard copy applications will not be accepted.  Applications will not be accepted by the Fire Department. If you do not have access to a computer or the Internet, you may access our online application at public libraries and community colleges with public Internet access computers.  Or you may visit the City of San José’s Human Resource Department located at 200 East Santa Clara Street, Council Wing, 2nd Floor, San José, and CA 95113 between 8:00 .m. and 5:00 p.m.

The Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certification will be used for the physical ability portion of the testing process.  Information regarding the testing facilities licensed by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) to administer the CPAT to fire fighter candidates can be found at http://www.cpatusa.com and http://cpatonline.org.
